MCAS Welcomes Glenda Ritz
Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz visited Michigan City Area Schools on Thursday, May 14, prior to giving a speech at the Michigan City Rotary Club.
Supt. Ritz visited Michigan City High School, touring the school with Principal Wendel McCollum. She saw several highlights, including Foreign Language classrooms, the Project Lead the Way Engineering class, Early College, and English 10 classrooms, where students were using Chromebooks as part of a 1:1 pilot. She enjoyed seeing students at lunchtime banking at the Horizon Wolves' branch! She also spent a few minutes answering questions from Cityzen student newspaper reporter Kyle Hurt.
Following her stop at MCHS, Supt. Ritz visited Krueger Middle School, where Field Days were in full swing. She joined students from Springfield and Pine Elementary, stopping at activity stations along the school's Bird Habitat and Forest Management trails. Krueger Principal Vera Jones introduced her to the many Krueger students and staff members who were leading activities for the elementary students along the trails of the Outdoor Environmental Science center. "This is the first time I've toured a school and never set foot inside a building," she remarked, praising the student-led, hands-on learning opportunities.
