The Michigan City Mainstreet Association has a new program called the “Farm to Table SNAP Matching Program”. During the 2016 market season, individuals will be able to use SNAP credits to purchase produce and food items. Michigan City Mainstreet Association’s Farm to Table SNAP Matching program will match dollar for dollar an individual's SNAP credits up to $25 per week. This means that families will be able to swipe their SNAP cards for $25 and they will receive $50 in credit to be used with vendors.
Because of our limited resources, the Farm to Table SNAP Matching Program will be capped at $3000 and will expire at the end of the 2016 season. Funds are available on a first come first serve basis. Once the grant is used up for 2016, individuals will still be encouraged to use both SNAP and WIC at the market.
