backpack "Community Backpack" is an online bulletin board where local non-profit organizations may post fliers announcing special events and programs for children and families. Organizations interested in posting a flier should email it to bkohn@mcas.k12.in.us. (Please send information in .pdf format if possible.)
 
The event should be in or very close to MCAS attendance boundaries, and it should pertain to or involve students. Please suggest a length of time for the flier to be posted. Sorry - no campaign events or ads/offers by for-profit businesses.

  • Teen Court

    Youth Service Bureau Big Brothers/Big Sisters of LaPorte County is recruiting students in grades 6-12 to become Teen Court volunteers. After an orientation and training session, volunteers can take on roles as jurors, attorneys, and bailiffs during actual juvenile sentencing hearings. The annual Teen Court volunteer training will be held on Monday, February 22 from 6-7:30pm at the LaPorte County Courthouse in Michigan CIty. A mock hearing will be presented by current volunteers. 

    Volunteer applications may be obtained from your school office, or download below. Completed applications may be brought to training on Feb 22.

  • Black History Month Exhibit

    Visit Mullen to tour Safe Harbor's "Education, Celebration, and Inspiration" Black History Exhibit - open to the public Monday through Friday, 1-4pm during February for self-guided tours. Groups please call 873-2026 ext 8743 for tour info. (Family & Community Celebration: February 13, 10:00 a.m to 2:00pm) The exhibit will feature an array of displays, including items from the collection of Allen and Cenora Williams. Works created by Safe Harbor students and art enrichment students will also be on display.

  • "Think, Eat, Live Green" Garden Show

    THINK, EAT, LIVE GREEN is the theme of a garden show planned by the La Porte County Master Gardeners on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Designed as a fun and informative day for the whole family, the Garden Show will be held at Michigan City High School from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost for this event is $10 per person payable at the door and children under 12 are free. The Garden Show will feature keynote speakers, seminars and demonstrations, a gardening series for children, garden and food vendors plus door prizes and raffles.
